The Neighbourhood Youth Forums (NYF) are a fantastic way for young people to voice concerns, issues and interests for their local areas. Meetings are held in Brabourne and Smeeth, High Halden, Hamstreet, Hothfield, and Little Burton Farm in partnership with local Parish Councils, Police Community Safety Officers (PCSO’s), Community Wardens and local Youth Workers. This way we can be sure meetings are taken seriously. With joined up thinking, action will be an outcome!
The Ashford Youth Forum Trust (AYFT) discusses and debates the latest local issues and has separate issue groups including transport, health, entertainment and leisure, crime and communications.Each group meets once every 3 or 4 weeks – there is a formal method of communicating these issues and suggestions back to the Council and its partner agencies.. They really make a difference and you can get involved.
By completing the tasks your school can become accredited and gain a Clean Kent Flag to fly outside your school.
If you’re 16 or 17 and out of school, college or work and been doing nothing for 20 weeks then the Connexions Activity Agreement could help you get going! You will learn new skills, make new friends and get £20 a week for it. Activities on offer include: job seeking techniques, work experience, sport and fun activities, developing confidence and reading and number skills.
If you are 16 – 18 and don’t know what to do next, then come and join Back on Track, an action packed 3 week course of activities to suit you. We can also help you to; Write a great CV to help you get a job, Get a First Aid Certificate, Find out about learning new skills, Have fun and make new friends.
At Connexions Kent we need your help to make sure our services are effective and young people friendly. There are lots of ways you can get involved – you can join one of our local focus groups, become a member of the Youth Board, have a say in how we market our services to young people and engage them in our work or be on an interview panel when we recruit new staff. It’s a great opportunity and will give you some valuable experience.
Youth Action Groups are a way in which to encourage young people to work together and raise their awareness of the role they can play in creating safer communities. The groups encourage good citizenship and develop young people’s knowledge and understanding of problem solving, communication and teamwork through an interactive and relevant learning experience.
